Re: Visit to Chaeronia, Greece

Dear Prime Minister:

I am Harry Potter, President of the Hellenic Foundation for the Preservation of History and Culture, Inc. Today my associate, Regina Gunzurevskaia and I visited the wonderful Greek community of Chaeronia. We were privileged to meet the mayor of the city and tour its important historical sites and two spectacular museums. I had previously visited Chaeronia in April 2002. I was amazed at the quality of the city of the cultural attractions it offered. Chaeronia is truly a jewel in the crown of Greece.
Chaeronia offers one of the top battles in world history - a critical encounter involving Philip of Macedon and his young son, Alexander the Great. It was not only exceptionally important in its own right, but it was troy the change of an era as it ushered in the Hellenistic Age while it bade farewell to the Hellenic Age of Greece. It also marked the end of the polis which had characterized Greek social, economic, political and military life for centuries.
Chaeronia offers an easily understandable battlefield, a marvelous church dating to the 1200s; a beautiful ancient fortified acropolis which has been occupied for more than eight millennia. It also has an adjacent 6th century B.C. theater. Chaeronia is also home to two wonderful museums which attract tourists from around the world and hundreds of school children from other Greek cities eager to learn about their fabulous past.
One museum, located adjacent to the recently restored, spectacular Lion of Chaeronia statue, depicts life there for more than eight thousand years. It has an excellent collection of pottery, weapons, metal works, and statues. The other museum hoses an excellent 3-D graphical depiction of the famous Battle of Chaeronia. Both museums offer a terrific cultural and learning experience. Accompanying the battle site, statues, and museums are outstanding written materials which add great understanding to the events that took place there.

Chaeronia is a shining example of a Greek city that has identified and properly honored its culture and the contributions of Greece to the advancement of the world. I have met with Dimarchos Nikos Papaggelis of Chaeronia and looked at the exciting plans he has developed for the future of his city, including his commemoration of the life of the great Greek writer Plutarch who was from Chaeronia. Dimarchos Nikos Papaggelis is an outstanding ambassador for Greece and truly has advanced his city tremendously. We look forward to viewing the completion of his present plans in our future trips to Chaeronia.
Thank you so much for your consideration. You have a beautiful country with a glorious history that has never failed to inspire me.
Sincerely,

Harry Potter
